Why can’t we have nice things any more?

Nanny State Records is a small boutique label based in Bristol, England, issuing phonographic recordings that recall the look and feel of the pre-digital era.

Please do avail yourself of the information presented in the following question-and-answer-format screed:

ALL YOUR RECORD SLEEVES LOOK THE SAME

Yes, we know. It’s rather the point.

DO YOU ISSUE CDs?

No.

7”s? LPs?

Not at the moment.

DIGITAL DOWNLOADS?

Yes, all our records come with a free digital download copy.

BUT… NOT CDs?

Putting digital content on a physical medium seems rather redundant nowadays, don’t you think? We always felt CDs were rather sad, apologetic little things anyway. Vinyl-and-digital seems a much tidier confluence of aesthetic appeal and modern convenience.

WHO PRINTS YOUR SLEEVES?

The outer sleeves are hand-letterpressed in our Bristol HQ to our own design.

The inner sleeves are designed by artists we like. For our first release, that was Tom Cops.

CAN YOU PUT OUT MY RECORD?

Do you play the banjo? Or perhaps the Hurdy-Gurdy?

NO

Alas, then, probably not. But send us some demos anyway, we like most things.

REALLY?

Well, no, not really. We actually experience most things with a creeping sense of horror and nausea.
